Louisville JV vs. Northwest

The Louisville JV fell to Northwest by a score of 48-32. The Leps played well for three quarters but could not overcome a big push from Northwest in the 4th quarter.

The “O” line consisting of Tyler Higgins, Jarrod Dawson, Sam Pickens, Walter Stenroos, and John Taggart did a great job all day. Their pass protection gave QB Jon Crank time to throw all day. They also opened holes all day for running backs Dylon Wasosky and Aaron Reynolds.

The Leps started the scoring in the 1st qt when Crank hit Jake Sluss on a 75 yd TD pass. Sluss took a well thrown pass and outran the defenders to put Louisville up 6-0. Northwest answered back on their next possession to take an 8-6 lead.

Louisville’s next drive was kept alive when Wasosky took a screen pass and went 45 yds on third down. That set up a first and goal for the Leps. Gavin Lovejoy then hauled in a pass from Crank to make the score 12-8 Louisville.

Northwest opened the scoring in the 2nd qtr to take a 16-12 lead. The Leps would answer back when Crank hit Zach Schillig on a deep pass to put the team in scoring position. Sluss then pulled in his 2nd TD catch of the game to give the Leps an 18-16 lead going into halftime.

The team came out of halftime and kept up the scoring. Our first possession was a well balanced attack that was capped off when Crank hit Schillig on a deep pass for a TD. Rocco Buccasso then hauled in a pass for the 2pt conversion to make the score 26-16 Leps. After stopping NW the “O” went back to work. Crank hit Cody McElroy on a crossing route that was good for 55 yds. A few plays later Aaron Reynolds plowed his way into the end zone to put the Leps up 32-16. NW scored near the end of the 3rd quarter to make the score 32-24 heading into the final qtr.

Turnovers and special teams play doomed the Leopards in the 4th qtr. NW would go on to score three TD’s in the 4th qtr to win the game 48-32. Northwest used mostly a 5 receiver set which gave our “D” problems most of the day. The front line did a decent job of getting a push in the middle; however the NW QB made a lot of nice plays when he was pushed from the pocket. Next up for the JV will be West Branch at Louisville Stadium on Sat Oct, 3rd at 10:00 am.
