Lohmeyer’s Last Second Field
Goal Lifts Leopards Over Canton South
No One Said It Was Going To Be
Easy! After this past Friday Night, the
previous sentence seems to be the Understatement of the Century! Head Coach Paul Farrah knew that our Mighty
Leps would be in a Dog Fight, and the Canton South Wildcats proved it! There was not a Cloud In The Sky, and a
Packed House filled Clyde Brechbuhler Stadium For The NBC Showdown Between Our Louisville Leopards And The Canton South Wildcats.
The Question Of The Week, Which Became The
Question Of The Night? What Do You Think Trainer Lance Sermon? Would our All-Ohio Standout And
Captain #2 Bobby Swigert play after suffering a Foot Injury just a week
earlier. Well, #2 Swigert did not just play! #2 Bobby
Swigert led our Beloved Leps To A Come From Behind Victory As Kicker #87 Jaron
Lohmeyer nailed a Game Winning 38 Yard Field Goal With 5.9 Seconds Left In The
Game!
Let
Me Tell You, Twooo Was Not Alone As Our 11 As 1 Got It DONE!
Going into the Game Defensive Coordinator
Nick Lewis knew that Our Boys would face some of the most Athletic Wideouts
that you could see anywhere in High School.
Our Defense Was Facing Two Legitimate Division
I College Talents In The Same Game! That
being said, the
Wildcats struck early on a big play, then early in the Second Quarter----struck
again to take a 14 to 0 Lead on our Leopards.
As I stated earlier, Our Beloved Leopards Are 11 as 1, and there is no
better example than the Three Super Sophs that stepped up Big for our Leopards. #7 Lucas Poyser getting his first start of
the year with #32 Preston Massey hobbled with an ankle injury, rushed for 117 yards on 22 carries on the night. #7 Poyser showed Great Balance and Strong Effort(Reminded Me Of Big Brother Marcus Back In The Day—Remember
#34!!!!) on every carry especially running left behind the Boys Up Front! The
second Super Soph was #83 Adam Nees who got his first start of the year at
Cornerback due to the Swigert Injury and looked like a Seasoned Veteran going
against the South patented Spread Offense.
Well Done #83
and Welcome To The “V”—Way To Step Up!! Lastly, the third Super Soph that has been
doing it all year was
#16 Chad Neff who came off the edge like a Locomotive with a
couple Tackles for Loss and a Huge Sack For The Leps! #16 Neff took all the Snaps at Defensive End
with #49 Mat Wharmby out with a concussion.
This Is What Louisville Football Is All About!! When someone cannot go, Someone
Else Steps In Like A Champion! That
being said, no Bigger Play in a Tough Situation can be described then Junior
#13 Toby Minster stepping in and making The Perfect Throw to Senior #25 Cody
Stocker along the Right Sideline for a 39 Yard Touchdown Pass. The Tremendous Effort by #13 Minster enabled our Mighty Leps to get back into the game
before Half. Our PAT was blocked to make
the Halftime Score Canton South 14 Louisville 6.
Half Time Is All About Adjustments, and our
Leopard Coaching Staff proved once again to have the Right Formula for
Success. Our past Leopard Legends get
our Boys motivated and implement the correct adjustments in a Game that
definitely was not going our way! One
aspect of the Game that proved to be the Difference was the fact that Our Leps
Defense could stand tall and not give an itch!
Points for our Leps Offense have been tough to come by and The “D”
bought our “O” time the entire Second Half.
The Linebacking Core led by Coach Troy Davis did a Fantastic Job with double duty against the
Tough South Running Game and Spread Passing Game. The Man In The Middle, #24 Hunter Potts made
several big plays and Solo Tackles as Captain #34 Jake Adkins and #9 Michael
Schooley were exceptional in coverage and stepped up to make very important
stops against the Run. Coach Mike
“Horse” Norris and Coach Adam Burris had the Defensive Line putting Pressure With one Less Player due to our Nickel Package. #55 Joe Poyser is a Freakin’ MANCHILD!!! #55 Poyser had three more Sacks on the night,
which gives Poyssss Ten for the Year!—WOW!
The Interior Line of Seniors #51 Joe Henderson,
#50 Bobby Gothot, and #36 Billy Kennedy left their Hearts on the Field with
constant pressure on the Wildcat QB. #61
Zac Whaley along with #16 Chad Neff rounded out the Front Five and both were solid
contributors as mentioned earlier. Defensive
Backs Coach Nick Lewis had to be very Proud of our DB’s effort with our Nickel
Package in pretty much stopping the South Passing Game other than two Big
Plays. Senior #31 Kyle Dehoff was once
again Solid as a Rock with Great Coverage and Sure
Tackling. As stated earlier, #83 Adam
Nees manned the other Corner with Juniors #44 Mitchell Sluss and #15 Jeremy
White playing the Safety Positions. Both
Sluss and White did a Great Job covering the Slots all night. #15 White had a Big Interception on Canton South’s First Possession. Welcome To Our Leps Defense Who Did Not
Surrender A Point In The Final 34 Minutes Of This Contest And Kept The Wildcats
At 14!!!!
With that Defensive Effort, it was
now Offensive Coordinator John DeMarco’s turn to go to Work! With our Mr. Football #2 Bobby Swigert behind
Center, you may Keep Us Down, but You Won’t Keep Us
OUT! Midway through the Third Quarter,
#2 Swigert led a Drive with Precision Passing and the strong Running by #7
Lucas Poyser. Running Back Coach Brian Beatty
had #7 Poyser clickin’ on all cylinders.
On a Big Third Down,
#2 Swigert found #5 Joe Stoffer crossing the Field for a 14 Yard
Pitch And Catch For A Leps Touchdown! #2
Swigert connected with #5 Stoffer for a 2 Pt. Conversion where #5 Stoffer got Earholed
and barely got the Ball Across the Goal Line to Tie
the Score at 14 apiece. These Two Plays
between Swigert and Stoffer was just a Taste of the All Ohio Performance #2 Swigert showed completely 27 of 43
Passes for 252 Yards. This was made
possible by the Fabulous Receiving Core led by #25 Cody
Stocker. #25 Stocker
had 8 Catches on the night for 126 Yards and a TD. #25 Stocker made
several great adjustments on Comebacks to help move the Chains. #5 Joe Stoffer continued to make the clutch Catches adding 9 for 62 Yards. #15 Jeremy White had 5 Catches and Senior #22
Lee Ferguson added 4 Catches. #22 Ferguson has been battling Injuries, but stepped up Big with
some Tough Catches. Senior #21 Jared
Strasser and Junior #9 Michael Schooley both added Big
Catches and did a Great Job Blocking for our Running Game as did the rest of
the Leps Receiving Core!
Now, Let’s See How LEOPARD PRIDE
Came Through Once Again! With our Leps
Driving, Canton South made a big
Interception and with the Defender darting down the Sideline 59 Yards and Our
Leps desperately pursuing, the South Defender looked to have an opening to Go
All The Way. Senior #59 Dan McDonald
truly showed his Want To Win and The HEART Of A
Champion effort in coming across the entire Field to make a Huge Stop In Louisville Territory. Right Guard
#59 McDonald made the Biggest Play Of The Game For Our Leps And Gave Our
Boys The Life We Needed! With our
Defense coming up big once again as Senior Captain #34 Jake Adkins came up with
an Interception on Fourth Down to give Our Leps the ball back at our own 14
Yard Line with 2 Minutes to Play. Most
Teams would have played for Overtime, but Coach Radalia had the Boys Up Front
in Prime Condition for a Game Winning Drive. Center #50
Bobby Gothot, Right Tackle #65 Dan
Davis, Left Guard #78 Tyler Radalia, Left Tackle #73 Joe Neff, and Right Guard
#59 Dan “Big Mac” McDonald opened a gaping hole as #7 Lucas Poyser darted 21
Yards on the First Play. This gave Coach
Paul Farrah the Confidence to let Twoooooo Go To
Work. #2 Bobby Swigert hit #22 Lee
Ferguson, #15 Jeremy White, and #25 Cody Stocker to keep moving the Chains and
get our Offense to the South 21 Yard Line with 10.4 Seconds to Play. After Two earlier
Kick attempts were Blocked, Coach Paul Farrah made the call of the Game in
sending out the Kicking Unit and #87 Jaron Lohmeyer. Kicking Coach Dustin Nicholas has done a
Tremendous Job preparing both #87 Lohmeyer as well as Punter #6 Logan Henkel for moments like This! Coach Farrah and Special Teams Coach made an
adjustment in sending Two Of Our Beasts out with Captains #24 Hunter Potts and
#34 Jake Adkins flanking the Kick Up Front.
Out Of The Hold Of #13 Toby Minster and the Snap Of #50 Bobby
Gothot, #87 Jaron Lohmeyer made the KICK
Of His Life as #87 Lohmeyer nailed a 38 Yard Field Goal Attempt For The GAME
WINNER With 5.9 Seconds Remaining.
